The Department of Critical Care Centre at Mayo Hospital offers 24*7 care to patients in potentially life-threatening conditions who need continuous monitoring to be carried out by multidisciplinary team. Such situations arise in case of hemodynamic instability (hypertension/hypotension), airway or respiratory compromise (such as ventilator support), acute renal failure, potentially lethal cardiac arrhythmias, the cumulative effects of multiple organ system failure, or even in the crucial hours after major surgeries when the patient is considered too unstable to be transferred to a less intensively monitored unit.
The discipline, generally the most expensive, technologically advanced and resource-intensive area of medical care, integrates many specialties and diverse technologies, holding out the hope of survival to patients who are acutely and critically ill. The care in ICU requires unwavering commitment, precision and synchronized teamwork.
Our Critical care team comprising specially trained physicians, anesthetists, surgeons, nurses and allied health care professionals partner together 24 hours a day to ensure quality care for each individual patient.
They provide the full spectrum of medical, surgical and trauma critical care services to patients including the psychological, physical and emotional needs of the patient.
With the state of the art Central monitoring system, The doctors and the nursing staff can see virtually all the patients at all times. Each of the beds has state-of-the-art equipment to keep track of vital parameters. All invasive and minor surgical procedures are done at the bed side. Facilities exist for bedside Dialysis, Bronchoscopy, Endoscopy, Echocardiography, Ultrasonography etc.
A lot of emphasis is also placed on areas like nurses training, standardizing care through clinical pathways and documentation of ethical and economic issues pertaining to Critical Care, managing the in-hospital environment, infection control.
